Why do I need a privacy policy?

Having a privacy policy on your website is a legal requirement and is essential for communicating how your business collects and uses your customer data. A privacy policy also helps your business stay compliant with data privacy laws, saving you from potential controversy and expensive fines.

Step-by-Step

  1. It’s best practice to have your Privacy Policy on a separate page, to create a new page, navigate to “Pages” on the left-hand navigation and select “Add New”. You can style this page however you like, but it is recommended to leave it blank with just a Privacy Policy title.

  2. To make sure the Enzuzo Privacy Policy shows up, you must add a “Custom HTML” block to your page. Simply click the “+” button on the block, or in the top left-hand corner, and search “html” you should see the component and be able to add it in.

  3. Once the Custom HTML component block is visible on your page, go to your Enzuzo account, and head to Privacy Policy, then in the navigation tabs click “Add to Website”, from here copy the HTML code to your clipboard.

  4. Paste this HTML code into the Custom HTML block you added, if you click “Preview” on this block you should see the policy as it would be on the site. You can now publish the page, and make sure everything looks fine.

  5. Now that we have the Privacy Policy page, we need to allow customers to navigate to the policy from the homepage. This is recommended to be done in your footer, but you can add a link to this page anywhere it seems appropriate. Edit the homepage by heading to Appearance -> Editor in the left-hand navigation.

  6. In the navigation block you want to add the Privacy Policy link, click the block and you will see a “+” icon show up. Click the “+” and the recent pages you made will show up. Select the Privacy Policy page you previously created, you will see your navigation block update with the new policy link. You can manually edit the name and link in the block editor on the right-hand side.

Publish your changes, and we are done! Your Privacy Policy is now live.

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • Make sure your WordPress account supports JavaScript-embedded code, this is available to E-Commerce, Business, and Legacy pro plans that support this functionality.

  • If you notice any formatting issues, you may want to head to Plugins -> Installed Plugins and deactivate the pre-installed Gutenberg plugin.

  • Do not use any external plugins to workaround the Custom HTML Block, this is the simplest way to add the policy to your site, and avoids complications.

  • You can adjust if the policy content is initially open or closed in the Enzuzo “Design” tab when configuring your policy. The Design tab is also where you want to make any basic style changes, further edits can be made in the “CSS” tab.
